STONE... nature's beauty
We don't pretend that the cost of stone can compete with brick.
Quite simply, it does not. But the extra expense is generally worth it. The unique appeal of stone is truly reflected in the finished project, and in an increased property value. Like fashion in clothing, sometimes we just want to stand out a little, or a lot. Unlike clothing, which can be changed quickly, the decision on the dressing of your home once done, it is set in stone, or timber, or render, if you choose those options. Your homes facade is not a throwaway item, so there is little room for regrets.
Why is stone seen as a prestige or elite building material?
Prestige, or elite can be interpreted as out of most peoples reach, it is exclusive. In the early days stone masonry was a very specialist occupation, and still is. As such with traditional stone construction methods it is very expensive, Introduction of lighter weight thin stone cladding veneers, rather than dimension blocks have changed the stone landscape somewhat. This said, it is still on the higher cost side compared to some other walling materials. Factor in the unique appeal and charm of stone, and that there will be no painting costs from many decades then it is a very attractive option. Paint and colours come in and out of fashion, but stone walling generally does not date.
Some mechanical stone fixing methods do make it more affordable.
Direct to stud fixings are now availble for some stone formats which can reduce the labour cost, compared to the requirement of a costly structural facade to accomadate chemically fixed stone cladding. Some stone cladding can also be chemically affixed to fibre cement sheet, but limited by BCA standards to stone weight under 50Kgs / M2.

The wall cladding dilemma? Timber/wood walling vs stone walling
nature's beauty, TIMBER vs STONE
Here we have 2 of natures loveliest and finest materials, timber and stone. They go perfectly together with each other. The upkeep and maintanence of them however is quite different, as the example above shows after just 4 years. The timber cladding has become worn and faded with the effects of weather and sunlight degradation. Thus requiring substantial remedial work to revitalize the wood to its original state. Exclusive of labour the cost of timbe varnishes and stains are not cheap. The stone wall cladding however is as good as the day it was installed and requires zero maintanence expenditure.
