Affordable Stone Fencing
How much does it really cost for a fence finished in natural stone?
Stone fencing and walling is not considered cheap and likely never will be. Stone is considered one the most prestigous and attractive building materials around, thus one should not expect it to be just a few hundred dollars. That said it has many advantages, unlike a timber fence, natural stone does not rot, and unlike metal fencing it does not rust. Stone fencing requires little mainainence nor onging painting or stainng as does timber fencing Even a concrete block fence or a besser block fence is not considered cheap due to the foundation footings being required. And to be aesthetically pleasing it still requires finishing such as render and/or painting. Then the cost of ongoing painting over the years.

Choose any stone which best suits the character of your home. Rustic charm or modern contemporary.
How much does it usually cost for other fencing types?

Besser or concrete block fencing requires footings to carry the weight load and generally cost from $600 to $700 a square metre installed. Then extra for render or paint if necessary or required.

Likewise brick fences need footings and will generally run out at $650 to $800 a square metre overall. D/A is required regardless of height in most council areas too.
Timber fences usually cost $300 to $350 a sq metre, plus the cost of staining / painting if required

Sandstone and typical stone cladding installation methods?

Sandstone cladding being fixed to a concrete block wall
How much for a stone fence? It depends. Most stone fences typically, unless made from dimension stone blocks, are with stone cladding applied to a structural besser or concrete block wall. One can expect to pay an extra $400 to $500 a square metre for the stone with both sides cladded. Thus with the initial concrete block wall cost, and the stone cladding it would be from $1100 to $1200 a sq metre all up.
